It’s that awkward in-between seasons time of year again. Since the groundhog saw its shadow, we’re all stuck again. We’re tired of wearing the deep, rich hues of fall, yet we aren’t ready to jump into our spring wardrobe because we’re restrained by the necessity of winter weather apparel. I have found a simple, cost-conscience solution to your winter-woes. Shop your closet!
I have found that revisiting your closet during these dire times is the perfect way to bring spring back into your wardrobe while still dressing weather appropriate. Spend time reorganizing your closet and bringing out colors from past seasons. I recently organized my wardrobe based on color, making it easy to put pieces from different seasons together in unique combinations. I encourage you to get through the dreary days of winter with a few spring pieces, intermix bright colors with darker colored accessories. Have fun rediscovering pieces from seasons ago, place them alongside the sweater you have worn all winter; combine pieces you wouldn’t usually wear together. It’s not about what you buy; it’s about rearranging what you have. Accessorize with fun, chunky jewelry or a colorful scarf to keep you warm while you wait for the first spring sighting!
Color Changing Moments
Typically, I do not blog about one of our great salon services, however, I feel that the emotional and physical transformation hair color can offer to your life is definitely worth blogging about! I always find it amazing how big of a difference a slight hair color change can make. Whether you are just looking to give your hair a little more life with an enriched hue of your natural color or, if you’re like my daughter, and want to rebel with an all-over color change; coloring your hair can give you a whole new look.
One of the most important things to do before coloring your hair is to have a consultation with your color expert. You and your stylist should decide together what hue would best compliment your skin tone. Are you better suited as a cool platinum blonde or a warm honey blonde? Will you look ravishing in red? Will your complexion be overpowered by a rich, dark brunette shade? These are just a few things to consider before making the leap into a new hue.
If you’re feeling the winter "blas," as I call them, now is the time for a fresh new color change! If you feel you need more information on choosing the right shade for you, check out the Winter-Spring issue of New Beauty magazine, I personally contributed to some of the content for the hair color article. Enjoy!

A New Year, A New Salon
Happy New Year!Happy 2010!
WOW- I can hardly believe that we are now an entire decade past Y2K- the year of 2000, when we all were not sure if our computers, electricity or anything run by computer would stop or continue to work! We all woke up the day after and found ourselves still here and life was continuing on…. Now we are 10 years out and on to a new decade full of hope, new challenges and life!I tend to reflect a great deal at the end of the year and the start of the new one, perhaps due to my birthday falling on the first day of the New Year with one more year added to my age, not that I am counting!
Here is an example of a conversation I hold with myself at the beginning of each New Year:
I ask myself these questions:
What do I need to continue to do in 2010 that worked in 2009?
What do I need to stop doing in 2010? (Be honest with yourself)
What do I need to start doing in 2010?
One of my goals was to expand our salon business.I am excited to announce the coming of a new extension to our business, Studio MC!Our new addition is currently under construction but we plan to open in early March.Studio MC is located at 940 Portage Trail, just across the street and one block down from M.C. Hair Consultants. The Studio will be a full service hair salon with an attached event space that will be available for special occasions such as bridal parties and company retreats!I must admit that I am thrilled to finally see my self-conversations coming to life!
I wish the best for you and your families in the New Year.Happy 2010!
